International Programs

Brown-Bag Lunches
To give the community a more insightful look into other cultures, Mercersburg often offers brown-bag lunch talks given by international students. Instead of going to required lunch in the dining hall, many of our students have opted to go see a classmate give a talk on, for example, Costa Rica, Thailand, Nigeria, or Italy. Attendees have learned the proper way to greet others in many different countries. They have also gained knowledge about these countries’ history, geography, humor, language, literature, architecture, music, religion, politics, relationship with the United States, teen culture, and much more. On a related note, Mercersburg often showcases cuisine from varied countries in the dining hall.  The dining hall staff does a great job of trying to match ingredients and cooking techniques in the most authentic way possible; they even solicit recipes from students and community members.

Student Clubs
One of the great advantages of a community of intellectually curious domestic and international students is that many of our student-language clubs consist of both native speakers of the language and students from the United States. This creates a symbiosis in which students from the United States can benefit from the international students’ native experience, while the international students can use these clubs to help maintain a sense of connection to, and pride in, their home countries.
