Artwork of Scott Christopher ’72 and Elizabeth Christopher On Exhibit

Mercersburg is featuring the artwork of Scott Christopher ’72 and his wife, Elizabeth Christopher, in the Burgin Center for the Arts’ Cofrin Gallery through May 14. The exhibition, titled “Art Is Wings,” will feature large-scale paintings by the Christophers, and explores their artistic collaboration as a husband-and-wife team. Works featured in the exhibition were created in their shared art studios in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Scott Christopher was the featured speaker at a school meeting April 24 in the Irvine Memorial Chapel, and a dessert reception with the artists was held April 25 in the Burgin Center.

The show is composed of their individual abstract paintings and contemporary sculpture. Though stylistically different, both Scott and Elizabeth present works that are saturated in color and light and defined by emotion, atmospheric influences, and the human experience. The couple uses self-exploration as a metaphor to encourage the viewers to explore their own personal experience.

Scott Christopher attended the University of Maryland on a baseball scholarship; he later signed with the Baltimore Orioles and played parts of four seasons in the Orioles’ minor-league system. He has established himself as an internationally acclaimed artist, photographer, writer, and an ambassador for the arts. His art has been collected, exhibited, and published worldwide.

Elizabeth Christopher is an internationally recognized artist and published writer. She studied art history at the University of London, and art, photography, and poetry at Bowdoin College, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in 1986. She later moved to New York City and studied design at the Parsons School of Design and the New York Botanical Garden, as well as creative writing at New York University. Her creative streams are fed by personal excavation, nature, global travel, fashion, design, and shared life experiences with other cultures. Artistic assignments have taken her to more than 25 countries.
