32 Mercersburg Students Named AP Scholars

In recognition of their performances on Advanced Placement (AP) Exams in spring 2021, 32 Mercersburg Academy students have been selected for recognition in The College Board’s 2021 AP Scholar Awards program. These students have demonstrated college-level achievement through their performances on AP exams and in AP courses. Honorees are recognized in four different categories: AP Scholar with Distinction, AP Scholar with Honor, and AP Scholar.

Sixteen Mercersburg students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award after earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, as well as scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. They include Kaiyu Chen ’21 of Shanghai, China; Dylan Gantt ’21 of Atlanta, GA; Addie Geitner ’21 of Hickory, NC; Maddy Gillner ’21 of Rector, PA; Kenny Hong ’21 of Tianjin, China; Terrance Ji ’22 of Shanghai, China; Minsoo Jung ’21 of Ulsan, South Korea; Roy Kang ’22 of Seoul, South Korea; Aidan Kirkman ’22 of Hagerstown, MD; Eric Liu ’22 of Hagerstown, MD; Shoki Nemoto ’21 of Tokyo, Japan; Amanda Peh ’22 of Singapore; Zain Qureshi ’22 of Enola, PA; Matt Wang ’23 of Dalian, China; Amy Wu ’22 of Cypress, TX; and John Xu ’22 of Shanghai, China. 

Seven Mercersburg students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by receiving an average of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, as well as scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. They are Alison Huang ’22 of Taichung City, Taiwan; Kyle Kim ’22 of Fullerton, CA; Linh Nguyen ’22 of Hanoi, Vietnam; Jason Park ’21 of Seongnam-si, South Korea; Avo Reid ’22 of McLean, VA; Joie Xiao ’22 of Shanghai, China; and Jasmine Zhu ’23 of Chengdu, China. 

Eight students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by receiving scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams. They are Justin An ’23 of Fort Lee, NJ; Carina Cole ’22 of Boiling Springs, PA; Joyce Cui ’22 of Shenzhen, China; Michelle Feng ’22 of Beijing, China; Haruto Kitagawa ’22 of Yokohama, Japan; Tommy Quick ’22 of Denton, MD; Laura Schumacher ’21 of Wiesloch, Germany; Chelsea Seaby Bruno ’21 of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; and Andrew Yuen ’21 of Lawrence, NJ. 

The group of award winners includes 28 students who are members of Mercersburg’s current 12th-grade or 11th-grade classes (giving them at least one additional year to complete college-level work and possibly earn a higher-level AP Scholar Award).
