Clinging to the face of a cliff. Racing through white water in a kayak. Activities like these can teach you the importance of personal responsibility, leadership, integrity, and teamwork. And when you experience critical moments like these, the lessons tend to stick.

That’s exactly how Derry Mason wants to teach the important values that have shaped his own life. Mr. Mason is director of Mercersburg Outdoor Education (MOE), a program that has a profound impact on every aspect of the Mercersburg experience: academic, athletic, residential, and extracurricular.

Excursions led by MOE faculty and staff range from daylong local events to multi-week global adventures. Through activities such as rock and ice climbing, kayaking, biking, and backpacking, beginners and advanced students grapple with physical experiences as well as larger life lessons.
