To help ease the stress of finals, the men in Fowle Hall had four 6' and two 3' subs. Pictured (with the spoils of war) are: David Hill '09, Alex Somers '11, Robert Solis '11, Will Appleman '12, Min Cheol Lee '11, and David Bowes '12.

Women's Lacrosse, Southern Style (Part 2)

There were two storms in Bluffton last night…one was a pouring rainstorm that got rid of the bothersome gnats, and the other, much more fierce storm was the Mercersburg women’s lacrosse team. Bluffton (our opponent) was ranked No. 3 in South Carolina last season, and we beat them, 17–11.

Joining forces: the Storm team and the Storm TeamWith aggressive doubling, well-placed shots, and great saves by our goalies, we had an excellent second game. Every single goal Bluffton scored not only pulled them closer to gaining the lead, but also was another sprint we had to do. At the end of the game, we had 11 sprints, but we didn’t even care. The chemistry of the team was so intense and the victory so exhilarating that the sprints went by in a flash, and the other team couldn’t keep their eyes off of us. Hilton Head will not be forgetting Mercersburg any time soon.

To do a little rewind, the day started off strong with a morning practice next to a Jurassic Park forest that surely contained dinosaurs and alligators… Oakley. With the sun blazing down on our rather pale backs, the team worked hard on ground balls, clearing, and our defense zone. It was a solid morning that led to a solid lunch at the coach’s house. (Pasta with meatballs... delicious). After lunch, we had some free time, which was spent again exploring Harbour Town. With a few mad dashes back to the villas, team members managed to get their uniforms on and themselves to the Harbour Town Yacht Club dining room (third floor only, please) for yet another delicious meal. (Mandarin oranges or rolls, anyone?) And, of course, with everyone loaded in the vans after dinner, Sheaff and Bacon decided it was 100 percent necessary to take a picture next to the NBC Storm Team van. Storm Team, Blue Storm… get it? Anyway, with everyone loaded up it was off to Bluffton and the second victory of our season.

With many, many sore legs, the girls arrived at the villas wet and dripping and, thank goodness, to food. With a warm bed waiting, it is time to sign off. Again, if you happen to be watching the Weather Channel anytime soon, and South Carolina is mentioned… remember that storm in Bluffton? There was not one—there were two.

Signing off from Clipper 809… have a great, and hopefully sunny, day!
