Mercersburg

Mercersburg’s classical and modern languages department offers courses of study in Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Latin, and Ancient Greek. Small classes and individual attention from our dozen talented teachers enable students to become proficient speakers, listeners, readers, and writers in a second language. Eight Advanced Placement classes are available in our language curriculum, as well as courses that go beyond the AP level.

A diverse international student body offers opportunities to practice language skills in authentic situations daily. Students can take advantage of international trips during spring break, exchanges during the summer, or a full year studying with School Year Abroad in Italy, Spain, France, or China. Active language clubs provide even more opportunity for language interaction.

Our teachers have studied and lived abroad in China, Germany, France, Spain, Central America, and Ecuador and have traveled the world, and they use state-of-the-art technology to bring the world to their students. Our diverse faculty includes College Board language exam consultants, AP language exam readers, champion athletes, native speakers, and even an opera singer, all sharing a fascination with language and a gift for teaching.
