James Snyder '69, director of the Israel Museum and a member of Mercersburg's Board of Regents, is quoted at length in the Sunday, August 12, edition of the The New York Times. The story examines renovations and additions to the museum, which is located in Jerusalem and includes the Dead Sea Scrolls, Impressionist art, and a veritable collection of items reflecting the history and culture of the region.
Snyder, who was valedictorian of his class at Mercersburg, is a former deputy director of the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan. He became director of the Israel Museum in 1997. A graduate of Harvard University, he has served on the Board of Regents since 1983. His son, Daniel '05, is a fellow Mercersburg alumnus, and his cousin, Evan Pavloff, is a member of the Class of 2009.
