Barrick, Wolford on Pennsylvania and National Wrestling Teams
Mercersburg wrestling standouts Cody Barrick ’10 (right) and Bobby Wolford ’07 captured spots on the Pennsylvania Cadet and Junior national teams in both freestyle and Greco-Roman divisions at the Pennsylvania State Tournament June 14–16 at Blue Mountain High School.

Barrick earned a piece of Mercersburg and Tri-State area history when he claimed the Cadet (ages 15–16) 140-pound Greco-Roman state championship. He won four straight matches, including a defeat of 2007 PIAA Class AAA state runner-up Marshall Peppelman (Central Dauphin HS/Team Diesel) 4–3, 6–1 in his toughest bout.

Barrick also placed second in the freestyle competition, losing to Peppelman in the finals of that style.

Wolford, who began wrestling freestyle and Greco-Roman this spring, placed second in the Junior (ages 17–18) 152-pound freestyle tournament, and then placed third in the Greco-Roman event.

The top three finishers in each weight class earn automatic places on their respective Pennsylvania teams, which compete in the Cadet and Junior National Championships July 16–20 in Fargo, North Dakota. The Cadet and Junior national tournaments are considered the premier events for these age groups in USA Wrestling, since the styles are those used at the international level.

Barrick and Wolford are the leaders on the Storm Wrestling Club, a first-year club team directed by Mercersburg program assistant Barry Barrick.  Wolford, who will compete at NCAA Division II power University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown next season, was a three time state place-winner, senior captain, and top-ten finisher at the National Prep Tournament for Mercersburg. He led the team in wins with a 43–7 record in 2006–07. Cody Barrick was 35–10 and qualified for the National Prep Tournament.

Barrick also competed for the Pennsylvania Cadet duals team at the National Cadet Freestyle and Greco-Roman Duals June 24–27 in Kansas City, Missouri. Pennsylvania won the national title in freestyle and finished third in Greco-Roman competition.
