Men's Tri-Meet Recap
On Wednesday, January 16, the winter track team headed up to Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania to compete in a tri-meet against MAPL rivals Peddie and Hill.
James Finucane ‘08 (left) led the mile wire-to-wire in an even-paced solo effort. He finished with a time of 4:28.26 for the full mile. Finucane finished strong and put forth an excellent performance considering it was essentially a solo run on a flat track in an early season meet. He also ran a nice 3rd leg on the winning 4x400, bringing the team within striking distance of Hill before the final leg. He split 54.3 and really got after it.
Fleet White ’08 (center) had a full day with a nice 55m performance (7.07), followed by a decent 200m win in 24.18 and an excellent final leg on the winning 4x400m relay in 53.4 seconds.
Former football standout Bill Campi ’08 (right) led the shot-putters by throwing over 40’ for the first time. All of the Storm throwers threw pr’s (personal records), showing that their work on technique, strength and flexibility is paying off.
Hong Kong native Kevin Yeung ’10 improved in the 55m hurdles and gained confidence with a decent pr, down to 9.79 seconds. He 3-stepped through 3 of the 5 hurdles and performed much better than he did at the first meet.
In the boys 800m, Pat Morgan ’08, David Strider ’08, Nebiyu Osman ’10 and Ellis Mays ’10 all ran season debuts in the event. Morgan and Strider placed 3rd and 4th, running smart races and finishing at a strong 2:08, with Osman and Ellis not far behind in 2:10 and 2:11. They’ll look for improvements as the training progresses, focusing on the meets in February.
The men’s team, with several runners competing in off events, fell to Peddie and Hill. They will look to best them at the MAPL meet later in the season.
