| | Arts & Culture 2010 Theatre Preregistration Mercersburg Academy’s theatre company, Stony Batter Players, will be holding a preseason this year to get all of our fall shows underway. We will hold auditions to cast and rehearse the first of two fall productions The Dining Room by A. R. Gurney; The cast of Arms and the Man will be returning to begin staging the play and the Tech Crew will be returning to begin building the set, creating props, painting set pieces and other technical needs for the plays. All of these activities provide Performance Group Activity credit for the fall term.
This will be our fifth season in The Burgin Center for the Arts. The Dining Room, directed by Laurie Mufson, will be produced on Family Weekend, October 1st – 3rd in the Hale Studio Theatre. Arms and the Man, directed by Matt Maurer will be produced during Alumni Weekend October 23rd and 24th in the Simon Theatre.
We are still looking for a Stage Manager for the both shows.
Some information on the Dining Room: “The play is set in the dining room -or rather, many dining rooms- of a typical well-to-do household, the place where the family assembled daily for breakfast and dinner and for any and all special occasions. The action is a mosaic of interrelated scenes—some funny, some touching, some rueful—which, taken together, create an in-depth portrait of a vanishing species: the upper-middle-class WASP. The actors change roles, personalities and ages with virtuoso skill as they portray a wide variety of characters, from little boys to stern grandfathers, and from giggling teenage girls to Irish housemaids. Each vignette introduces a new set of people and events.” It was originally written for 6 actors to play all of the characters. We are aiming for a cast of 10: 5 men and 5 women.
Preseason registration will be the morning of Wednesday September 1st from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Our first session will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Hale Studio of the Burgin Center for the Arts before dividing into groups to begin auditions, rehearsals, or building.
Who Should Attend?
- We encourage students planning on joining Stony Batter Tech Crew (which attends to all of the technical production needs for our productions: set, lights, props, costumes) for fall "In - season" Performance Group Activity credit to attend.
- If you are planning on auditioning for The Dining Room you need to attend –this will be the only opportunity to audition for the play. This provides an "In-season" Performance Group Activity credit
- Cast of Arms and The Man must attend. This provides an "In-season" Performance Group Activity credit
- If you are interested in stage-managing either production for fall "In-season" Performance Group Activity credit you should to attend preseason.
New students are encouraged to attend. This will not interfere with Inbound.
