Selecting a Project Every senior chooses an area of intellectual or artistic interest and formulates a topic to investigate, research, perform, or explore in depth. Each senior must do an individual project, although in some cases permission will be granted to group proposals (such as the senior play production).
A senior project may have a direct connection with an interest developed in a particular course or activity at Mercersburg. A physics student could study the scientific hurdles facing the Manhattan Project or a French language student could research the French-Algerian connection, or a group of Strings students could, for example, organize a concert of Romantic period music.
Working with an Adviser All seniors work closely with their regular adviser to define a project and, early in the year, they choose a project adviser who has an interest or expertise in the topic. Projects requiring outside activity, such as internships or observations, may require activity over spring break.
Presenting the Project Seniors present their final work to the community on Senior Day through a lecture, musical performance, video, play, or even a fashion show. |
