From the Assistant Head of School for Enrollment
In a recent letter sent to all boarding schools Pete Upham, the Executive Director of The Association of Boarding Schools, remarked that “boarding schools don’t simply deposit information; they transform lives. And that transformation happens on site, in person, by encounter and through relationship. The deeper the relationships, the deeper the education.“ After reading this letter, I couldn’t help but think back to my own boarding school experience and how it transformed me. This transformation would have never happened if it were not for the strength of the relationships with my fellow classmates and most importantly with my teachers and coaches. Boarding schools have evolved a great deal over the past 25 years since I graduated, but what continues to remain very strong is the power of human relationships and their influence on the success of the many young people who have attended boarding schools.
Since arriving at Mercersburg Academy, I have had the opportunity to observe, up close, this wonderful school; its broad range of academic and extracurricular offerings, its diverse and talented student body, an incredibly committed faculty and a physical plant that many colleges dream of having. The breadth of our programs both in and out of the classroom allow our students the opportunity to expand on their strengths and to discover talents that they were not aware of prior to arriving at Mercersburg.
Mercersburg Academy has been educating young people since 1893 and although much has changed over 116 years, the mission of the school has not. We remain committed to providing our students with the best education in the classroom and beyond. Our talented faculty inspire our students to step outside themselves, to try new things and to learn about the importance of living in a diverse community where diversity is defined in many ways; culturally, socio-economically and through the multiplicity of academic and extracurricular interests that our students pursue.
