Travel Program Participation Selection:

In accordance with our mission, and to ensure that as many students as possible can participate in a travel program while at Mercersburg, a committee convenes to consider the following criteria in deciding who is selected for a travel program:

  • student’s previous travel program participation
  • student’s access to future travel programs
  • student’s coursework
  • gender distribution within travel group
  • student’s behavioral record
  • student’s age at time of travel
  • participation in a program such as MAPS Global Scholars in which a study abroad experience is required

Clearly, we will always have more students interested in our programs than we can reasonably accept within each one. If your child is not selected to participate, that information is recorded and considered when the student applies for a travel program in subsequent years.

After the selection process is complete and students are offered spots on the year’s programs, a series of important deadlines will be shared and must be met in order to confirm a student’s participation. If deadlines are not met, the student’s spot on the program may be offered to another student.
