Mercersburg Academy was one of the first schools to be accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools in 1927. We believe in the value of bringing in an outside eye to take a look at what we do and to ensure we meet the 12 foundational standards required of all schools accredited by the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools. In April 2014, we hosted a visit by a team of five colleagues from peer institutions. They came to campus to examine what we do and to serve as “critical friends” in helping us see how we might continue to improve the work we do to serve our students.
As part of our reaccreditation process, we examined our beliefs in relation to the school's mission and set areas to measure ourselves in student performance (leadership, service, health, and wellness). Although many were involved in the discussions, a planning team made up of students, parents, faculty, and members of the Board of Regents got the work done.
As part of this self-examination, the accreditation for growth team re-examined the school's belief statements. Belief statements are matters of “faith” that serve to inspire us and guide our actions.
