2:30 p.m. V Football @ Kiski School
Kiski (3-6) staged a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback to deny Mercersburg (2-7) its third consecutive victory in the season finale for both squads. The Cougar rally overcame a career day for Mercersburg quarterback Trevor Smith, who threw for four touchdowns and ran for another, playing a role in every score for the Storm.
Smith opened the scoring on a two-yard run in the first quarter, then, after Kiski briefly went ahead 8-7 in the second quarter, led a 20 point Storm outburst. The Mercersburg senior hit Jordan Jefferson with back-to-back touchdown passes, then connected with wideout David Erichson on a 40 yard strike. The extra points put the Storm up 27-8 at the half. Kiski narrowed the margin to 27-16 in the third stanza, before Smith and Erichsen hooked up again, this time from 42 yards out. However, the Cougars used a 67 yard trick pass play, and drove down the field for another score to pull within 34-30. After forcing a Mercersburg punt, the hosts put the winning drive together, scoring the go-ahead touchdown with just :19 seconds remaining.
Notes: Smith completed 10 of 20 passes for 195 yards; he finished the season with 1,486 passing yards and 11 touchdowns...Jefferson caught six passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns, while Erichsen connected with Smith on three passes, scoring twice...A.J. Firestone returned to the Storm lineup for the finale contest, albeit in a limited role. Firestone kicked 4 of 5 extra points through the uprights...the home team has now won the last four meetings between the two teams.
