2:30 p.m. V Men's Cross Country @ MAPL Meet @ Peddie
Neb Osman and Richard Lafferty waged an epic battle that wasn't decided until the last 50 meters of the race, with the Hill senior edging his sophomore Mercersburg rival at the Mid-Atlantic Prep League championships. Osman, who defeated Lafferty in the Pennsylvania Independent Schools state meet four days ago, trailed the Hill senior entering the final half-mile, but made his move with about a quarter-mile remaining. Lafferty barely held off the surge, as both runners crossed the finish line ahead of the previous MAPL meet record, held by Mercersburg's James Finucane.
Osman's time of 15:52, just behind Lafferty's 15:50, bested Finucane's 2007 time of 15:55.
Ellis Mays joined Osman on the All-MAPL first team, finishing sixth in a time of 16:56, while Matt Cook (20th, 17:55), Jae Nam (23rd, 18:02), and Adam Wechter (25th, 18:30) rounded out the Storm scoring.
"All the boys ran very well. Neb worked hard from last summer, through the season, to achieve this kind of success," commented coach Matthew Kearney about Osman who completed his first season of cross country competition.
The Hill School (34) claimed its fourth consecutive team title, outdistancing Lawrenceville (60), Blair (76), Mercersburg (76), Peddie (101), and the Hun School (183).
JV Meet Notes: Bruce McLaughlin was fourth, while Jake Culbertson also finished in the top twenty.
