1:00 p.m. V Field Hockey @ Peddie School
In an anticipated battle of evenly matched teams, Peddie took advantage of a slow start by Mercersburg to outdistance the visitors 4-1 in Mid-Atlantic Prep League action. The hosts opened the scoring early, riding the momentum of Nekole Jackson's hat trick into halftime with a 3-0 lead. The Storm got unraveled in the second half, as Annie Birney scored at 12:06. However Peddie answered late, scoring at 2:39 to seal the win.
Mercersburg had six corners and five shots on goal, while Peddie had eight shots on goal, most of them coming in the first half. Jane Banta recorded eight saves in goal for the Storm.
"It's a shame that this was the way we ended what has been an excellent season, because we left our game on the bus in the first half today. We played better in the second half but this was in no way an accurate representation of the type of team or season that we had this year," commented coach Gretchan Chace.
Notes: Mercersburg finishes the season at 11-4-1 overall, 2-3 in MAPL, which likely puts them in fourth place in the league for the second consecutive season (some schools still have league contests remaining). The 11 victories establishes a new school record.
