Sticking It to the Competition

With expectations riding high and a very new team taking the field, Mercersburg’s women’s varsity lacrosse 2008 season started off with more than a few doubts. However, the girls swept those away with a 22–1 win against Central Dauphin East and a 20–2 win against Lancaster Country Day School. As the girls adjusted to each other and some rather chilly weather, one thing became clear: this team could put numbers on the scoreboard and balls in the net.

Senior Surge

Frequently, it seems, we focus on the predilection of seniors to tone things down in the spring after four years of labor and the news of college acceptances has arrived. This is a myth though, I feel, especially with the current class of seniors, who have opted to achieve as much as they can prior to graduation rather than finishing in a lackluster repose. There is something of a senior surge taking place where these students are working as hard as ever and achieving as much as ever before.

Advice on College Visits

Well, I spent a good bit of the summer traveling, and in that time I visited more than a handful of colleges and universities – from the highly sought after, such as Georgetown and Duke, to obscure gems, such as Hiram, one of just forty college profiled in Loren Pope’s influential book Colleges That Change Lives.
