The golf team was founded in 1948 by faculty member Charles Thomas. After a succession of 5 coaches, including the school’s doctor, former math teacher Dick Decker took over as varsity coach in 1965. He retired in 1999 after coaching the team for 35 years where he was the driving force behind the team’s consistent success and winning tradition.

There are numerous former players who have played at the college level and several who have gone on to become PGA teaching professionals, some even having played in the U.S. Open. After being a fall sport, the golf team has joined most of Mercersburg’s other sports in the MAPL league and will begin competing as a spring sport for the 2006-07 school year.
