As choreographer Martha Graham once said, “Dance is the hidden language of the soul.”
Students at Mercersburg Academy have plentiful opportunities to explore the language of dance—both in and out of the classroom. Whether you’re an athlete who wants to gain flexibility or a lifelong dancer aspiring to a professional career, our dance program has a place for you.
Mercersburg dancers present two major productions a year, representing dance styles ranging from ballet to Flamenco to swing. In addition to performing, students serve as lighting designers, stage managers, sound engineers, and choreographers. Each production features the work of guest choreographers in addition to that of the Academy’s dance director.
Dance courses at Mercersburg range from Introduction to Dance to Dance Composition III. Outside the curriculum, students can take beginning through advanced levels of modern, ballet as afternoon activities. In addition, students occasionally organize and teach dance classes on genres such as salsa and hip-hop.
