The Criteria
The Mercersburg Scholarship is a competitive merit-based program that recognizes exceptional students based on:
- academic achievement
- SSAT test results
- extracurricular achievements
- character
- motivation
- a short essay responding to the prompt of "How do you hope to define yourself at Mercersburg?"
Who Is Eligible
New
day student applicants entering the ninth or tenth grade. Legacy
students, children or grandchildren of Mercersburg alumni, are not
eligible for this scholarship.
The Awards
The
winner is awarded full tuition for each year that he or she remains in
good academic and social standing at Mercersburg. Additional fees are
the sole responsibility of the family. Recipients are required to
maintain commended scholar status to renew their awards annually.
How to Apply
Complete
the full application for admission by January 15- including a personal,
on-campus interview and current SSAT test results. A separate essay as
explained above is also required.
We encourage all applicants to
complete the regular financial aid application process by this time as
well, so that need-based awards can also be determined. Without a
complete financial aid application, students will not be considered for
need-based aid.
The Selection Process
The
Assistant Head of School for Enrollment will review all applications to
determine a small pool of finalists from which the winners will be
selected by a faculty committee.
