Applying to a new school might seem daunting, but we're here to help every step of the way. Here's some of the information you'll need to apply:
Application Process
Our application for admission is online and has several parts. The "Apply Now" button found below will take you to our application so you can get started. You will be prompted to create a username and password, which allows you to login and logout as you work on completing your application.
Use the application checklist at the bottom of this page to keep track of the list of requirements.
Be sure to remember that certain steps will take extra time—for example, taking the required standardized test, scheduling your interview, and requesting letters of recommendation.
Standardized Testing
Mercersburg requires all applicants to take the appropriate standardized test for their grade level:
- Juniors and lower-middlers (grades 9 and 10): Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) CODE: 5026
- Upper-middlers and seniors (grades 11 and 12): PSAT and/or SAT preferred. SSAT acceptable.
- Postgraduate: PSAT and/or SAT or ACT
Students whose primary language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) CODE: 0877.
Personal Interview
Mercersburg requires a personal interview as a part of the application process. Though we strongly encourage you to interview on campus, we understand that distance is an obstacle for some of our applicants. Admission officers travel from late August through December around the world. To find out if we’ll be traveling near you, see the admission event page of the website or call 717-328-6173 for more information.
Optional Interest Questionnaires
Application Deadlines
The deadline for our merit scholarship applicants is January 15. The deadline for all other applicants and the financial aid application is January 31.
Notification
Once the application is complete, the prospective student's profile is presented to the admission committee. Admission-decision notification and financial aid awards are made by letter from the Assistant Head of School for Enrollment on March 10.
Note: In early December applicants will receive a username and password from the Admission office to check their "Online Application Status." With our online notifications, you can check what application materials have been received, and find out your decision on March 10. Our admission decisions will go live at 12:01 (EST) am on March 10, 2011. The checklist information will be updated daily at the end of the business day.
Late Applications
Applications received after the deadline will be evaluated and acted upon individually on a rolling basis.
Wait Pool
We receive more qualified applications for admission than we have space available. In this circumstance, we create a wait pool for qualified students. If the opportunity to use our wait pool occurs, the admission committee reserves the right to choose the student who best fits the opening available.
Please Note: The application fees are $50 for domestic students and $100 for students outside the United States.
