Students Earn Honorable Mention at Model U.N. in New York
Members of Mercersburg’s Model United Nations traveled by train to New York May 18–19 for a conference at the United Nations and the Grand Hyatt.

Chuck Roberts ’07 and Maggie Goff ’10 represented the United States on the Security Council and won an Honorable Mention for their work. Other Mercersburg students represented Eritrea. They are Annie Spencer ‘08, Katie Lam ’09, Molly Serpi ’09, Magdalena Kala ’09, Andrea Metz ’10, Christoph Herrmann ’08, and Lorraine Simonis ’10.

In addition to the conference, the group visited Greenwich Village, SoHo, NoLITa, and Little Italy. Mercersburg’s Model U.N. is advised by Christopher Tompkins, assistant head for enrollment.

Last month veteran Model U.N. student-leader Roberts organized a Model United Nations simulation for approximately 30 students from middle schools in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and New York. The event was the brainchild and senior project of Roberts, and brought together students from the Montessori Academy of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Jefferson Country Day School in West Virginia, and Talented and Gifted (TAG) Academy in New York City. (The latter delegation was escorted to campus by David Myrie, a teacher at TAG Academy and the brother of Mercersburg Regent Jamil Myrie ’93.)
